The Doepfer A183-3 is a very useful Tool for your eurorack.
Gainstages are still MUCH underrated in modularland.
patch your envelope thru it to clip it and thus get a hold stage.
patch first thru a gainstage to go with hot levels into your filter,
probably getting the expected love out of those filters you just didn´t so far.
make them saturate.
patch after ring modulators to get back a hot signal.
use it after filtering out a signal, for example by highpass filtering it, to get that filtered out sound back to a level.
the doepfer a 183-3 has a good sound in my opinion. can´t complain

Doepfer quality, does what it suppoes to do
Razvan L. 11.03.2016
Doepfer always makes good quality modules with great construction. But the cheaper, smaller modules always lack a little bit in features. It's great that the module has two sets of multiples and the amplifying range is great for adapting your signal (audio or control) amplitude for different types of modules. But this isn't something I'll ever miss if I sell it as it's very limited in functionality.

The only Doepfer module able to amplify a signal x2 or x4. Switched in x1 it is an handy attenuator and multiple. Great value for money.

useful module
Suuka 14.12.2015
I use it mostly for amplifying the output signal from arturia microbrute to use it with modular synth. Or after some guitar pedals to get back to modular levels. It can also be used as a very simple mixer or multiple. First I thought it has 2 channels for amplifying 2 separate signals, but that's not the case. 2 inputs are mixed together and 2 outputs are the same (like multiple). Doepfer build quality is very good as always.
