Electro Harmonix Nano Bassballs

173

Dual Envelope FollowerThe Electro Harmonix Nano Bassballs Dual Envelope-follower is the small successor of the legendary Bassball. Like this one, 2 'sweeping filters' create unique fat sounds.

The intensity can be controlled by the touch; the more the response knob is turned up, the more the effect goes up... so sounds from soft and unobtrusive to 'completely over-wound' are possible.

With the additionally activated fuzz effect the overtones are ignited even more... maybe the craziest AutoWah effect of all time!

Funky and freaky, works with everything.
Gustav P 09.07.2014
The Electro Harmonix Nano Bassballs is a pedal with two dynamic envelope filters. Externally it features a 'response' knob and a 'dist' flip switch. Inside there are two trimpots that will change the dynamics and response of the two filters.

I use the Bassballs for guitar, and have rated it for the use with a guitar.

Quality:
When I first got the pedal, I was very impressed with the light weight but still extremely sturdy construction. I would not be afraid of breaking it even during the harshest of gigs. I started out by opening the back to see if the battery was installed, but when I decided to screw it back up, the first screws threads were broken to the point where it was impossible to get it in. This seems to be a manufacturing fault, but it probably was just a single bad screw, since the other 3 went in there fine.

Sound:
The bassballs has a surprisingly versatile sound, which can be used with both high gain metal, clean funkyness, or even smooth sections of classic rock. Especially with the internal trimpots.

Features:
The distortion switch turns the response knob into a combined fuzz and response knob. This is quite easy to use, but a separate knob for the fuzz would have been preferable. The same for the trimpots, where external knobs would have been preferable, even if they're rarely manipulated when using one instrument.

Overall:
The Nano Bassballs is a fairly cheap but high quality pedal with a great but specific sound. It's small and should feel right at home on many pedal boards.

Basically that's it. You get what You see. It's a small cool looking and sounding filter, and it's relatively cheap.
However, I would love to have some bass or blend control on it.
For bass guitar it cuts a lot of bass frequencies when dist. is engaged. Other than that, it's a fun pedal to use.

Does what it is supposed to do
bassheder 09.07.2018
Why did I buy it?
I bought it as a device that could fill up the bass sound during guitar solos after hearing an envelope filter being used by Chris Kosnik.

Pros
Does what it is supposed to do.

Cons
I had to return it as it was not working and a replacement had to be sent. The return and replacement process was well handled.

Would I recommend buying it?
If you need one then yes.

P
Amazing pedal!
Peter6767 06.04.2015
This is a strange pedal, probably because I'm using it with a 8 stringed guitar.
it sounds amazing for some slipknot songs especially disasterpiece. It is very easy to use once you get your head around using it and how it works. It works with guitar and bass so it is very versatile. I would recommend this to anyone who like strange and unique sounding music, I find it works best with nu-mnu-metal and jazz, strange combination I know, but trust me it is a very unique and great sounding pedal! I wouldn't think twice about purchasing it if you want to create your own style or just mess around.
