I was extremely unsure if I should buy an expensive speaker for my beginner drummer career to upgrade my already not so cheap Roland TD-17. But after almost a year of playing, I can say, I do not regret it!
Actually, it opened up a new “world” to me since now I can play with my friends together. In the beginning it felt quite weird to be so “exposed” to everyone since I was only used to play with headphones. But now it is much more fun to play “properly”.
The sound quality itself seems very good to me (as far as I can evaluate that since I am no expert). I use the speaker also for watching movies and have it always connected to my computer since it has 2 input connections which are so nicely adjustable. It offers much more sound than any other computer speaker since it is basically offering volume on lower, middle and higher frequencies.
However, I have to admit that the sound quality is better when I play my drums with the Roland RH-300V Headphones. This means that the headphone sound is more clear in my opinion. But this does not mean that the speaker is bad or so, it is rather better with the headphones when I play alone.
Also I noticed that when I play together with friends, then the speaker can be potentially be overshadowed by my e-guitar friend when he is really pushing it with the sound. But that is then already very loud and you would need ear protection for longer sessions. So I would not see that as a con, but it is NOT enough for stage performances in my opinion.
So all in all, I am very happy with the speaker, I think it is not a stage speaker, but definitely loud enough for home usage, and I have the feeling that this is also the initial purpose of the speaker. It has a great sound and I can happily play with friends together or alone if I cant be bothered to have headphones on! :)
