I swapped my EMG81 & 89 (85/60 on split) for these, and I couldn?t have been happier with the swap. A lot more organic and fuller sound, without compromising attack or sustain. My guitar is a Jackson Dinky with a Floyd Rose bridge. I usually tune to Drop A or B standard, and they give great string definition on low tunings, whereas the EMG?s were a bit flat and "boring". The Pegasus pickup makes distorted chords a lot more fun, because you can hear the separation of the strings a lot better, and the sentient pickup is very rich on harmonics, that really makes a huge difference when doing lead work compared to the EMG89.
Side note: I put the EMG?s in my Drop D-tuned guitar, with a tune-o-matic style bridge. They sounded a whole lot better here. So I?m considering switching my Seymour Duncan Blackout 7?s for Pegasus/Sentient 7?s as well on my 7-string, as apparently to my ears, do a better job on low tunings.
