I have bought many t.Bone-microphones on the second hand market in the past, but I couldn't pass on this one when the black friday action of Thomann came along.
I already have (among others) the SC-450, SC-1100, SCT-800 and SCT-2000 condenser microphones. I'm very pleased with all of these and this SC-1200 seems to fill another gap.
First of all: it is STUNNING. The finish is absolutely perfect.
Contrary to the specs, mine seems to be figure 8 (no, it is not the similar looking ribbon, but that one is on my wish list). Figure-8, not cardioid, but also not symmetric. The sound characteristics are different depending on the side I use. The front side is very full and smooth sounding, and the back just adds some treble, and I even used it for some nice effects.
One thing should be said about this microphone: it is VERY sensitive. It's not recommended to use it in an untreated room, and you need a very stable microphone stand, as it doesn't come with a rubber band-based microphone cradle.
I mainly use my microphones for voice-overs, and it really has some character, but sounds clean and quiet. Definitely a lot better than you would expect at this price point.
There's two things that I don't like about it. It would be nice if this microphone had a high pass filter. And the foam pop filter is pretty flimsy. It hides the great look of the microphone. I would suggest a regular pop filter for this one.
Highly recommended.
