An affordable starting point

An alto saxophone is considered especially good for beginners if it offers a high level of sound dynamics and if it rests comfortably in your hands. The Thomann TAS-180 Black alto saxophone fulfils these criteria and is currently one of the most affordable Eb saxophones on the market. This saxophone makes a convincing case thanks to its balanced intonation in all registers and a very good response. Together with the black lacquered finish of the body and the gold lacquered keys, the metal resonators attached to their leather pads ensure a voluminous and powerful sound. The scope of delivery includes a gig bag with backpack straps, a two-reed mouthpiece, and a strap.

What does Eb Alto mean?

The Eb alto saxophone is part of the saxophone family, the other main members of which are the soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone. The term "alto" stands for the vocal range. The Eb alto saxophone is a transposing instrument, which means that a C played on this saxophone corresponds to an Eb on the piano or the guitar. The C played on an Eb alto saxophone therefore always sounds a major sixth lower. This is why notes for instruments in C tuning are not compatible with Eb alto saxophones (separate notation is available, however).

This is what a good start is all about

An appropriate saxophone for beginners and advanced players should be built in such a way that it enables well-intonated and dynamic playing in all registers and, on top of that, it should be durable. The intonation possibilities shouldn’t be too extensive, but they should not be too limited either. The mechanism has to be smooth, and the valves should be easy to operate. The Thomann TAS-180 Black alto saxophone fulfils all of these requirements and therefore represents a good starting point. Whether you are a beginner or coming to the Eb alto saxophone from another instrument, the TAS-180 Black will be an excellent choice thanks to its price-performance ratio. Since this saxophone exhibits a wide dynamic sonic spectrum and also has a warm and voluminous sound, it is particularly interesting for young Rock and Pop sax players.

About Thomann wind instruments

Thomann-brand instruments, which are exclusively built by renowned manufacturers, now constitute a large part of Thomann’s product range alongside numerous big-name brands. With unbeatable price-performance ratios, Thomann wind instruments are the obvious first choice for students and beginners – and others too. The technical features and uncompromising sound quality they offer are usually reserved for much more expensive instruments found in the professional market segment.

From beginner's model to open-air instrument

Until fairly recently, it was still hard to find a beginner’s alto sax that was both good AND affordable – but those days are thankfully over, as Thomann now offers a good solution with the TAS-180 Black saxophone. With the TAS-180 Black, you get a solid alto saxophone that can be used in many fields. It is suitable for learning the instrument and can also be used as a second instrument during bad weather at open-air events. The desired ideal sound can be achieved by using a suitable mouthpiece for the respective musical style. This saxophone makes a convincing case in many modern styles from Pop to Jazz, and it is therefore suitable for wind ensembles as well as for soloists.

Pleasantly Surprised

I am a trumpet player who wanted to learn the sax. I have been tooting away with this guy for just over a week, and feel confident I will be playing sax for a long time. This is thanks to Thomann for selling a quality horn that is very affordable. The fit and finish are nice and it was playable right out of the box. With research I bought a yamaha 4c mouthpiece and I am using a HH Fibereed. I could not be happier. I see a future of me owning all the saxophone family.

I have no experience with other sax brands but as a beginner i picked up very quickly and easy with tas-180.
I test it for leaks with a led strip inside the tube and it was perfect!
All notes sound loud and clear and im using a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece.
There is nothing like it in this price range,if you are a beginner and you dont want to spend a fortune,tas-180 must be your choice!

This instrument plays better than others way above its price point. It is stunningly beautiful, well built, smooth in response and very easy to play. Because I can now trust Thomann wind instruments, I am going to get the soprano and tenor too !
