This is a superb quality bridge. In fact, it's my favorite bass bridge. I've used it on many of my builds, with flawless results. It's a far more sturdy bridge than the standard Fender bridge but without being a high-mass bridge, which I'm personally not a fan of, for tonal reasons. Many high-mass bridges are also molded from poor quality pot metal. This Gotoh bridge is made from good quality brass, both the plate and the saddles.
The five screws at the back are compatible with the holes for a standard Fender-style bridge. The screws at the front require additional holes to be drilled. I don't think these extra holes are strictly necessary though. I mean, Fender bridges have worked fine with only the five screws at the back for over 70 years now! I really just drill the additional holes because I think it looks better than leaving them empty, without screws.
