New series, new functions

With the Pro version, the Oxygen series from M-Audio has received an extensive update, offering not only a new design but also new connection options and features. These include Arpeggiator, Smart Chord, and Smart Scale functions as well as practical automapping. This Pro Series model is equipped with 32 velocity-sensitive keys, eight pads, and four assignable knobs and faders. It also comes with a range of virtual instruments, so you can start producing music straight away. The Oxygen Pro Series provides users with full control over all DAW parameters, allowing them to concentrate on music creation without being distracted by the screen.

Simplified composing

The Oxygen Pro Mini has many helpful features: The internal arpeggiator can be synchronised with the DAW or used with your own clock. The Smart Chord mode enables enharmonic or custom chord voicings to be played. Smart Scale, on the other hand, simplifies the composition of harmonically perfect songs. With Note Repeat, notes are repeated automatically in an individually adjustable ratio. The back panel is equipped with a MIDI output that can be used to control analogue hardware synthesizers, and there is also a connection for an optional sustain pedal. A Kensington MiniSaver slot serves as a physical security solution, which is especially useful in a live setting.

Easy integration into the setup

The controllers of the Oxygen Pro series are suitable for a wide range of applications - whether it's on the stage or in the studio. Musicians, DJs, and producers will have a reliable companion with which to manage their virtual instruments, as well as their DAW. The control of Ableton Live is particularly precise and in detail, as individual lines (scenes) can be controlled directly. The faders are linked directly to the tracks, so that the volume can be changed intuitively. The controller is well-made and the knobs and faders have a high-quality feel. Beginners in the field of music production will be pleased to learn that Pro Tools First and Ableton Live Lite are included, as are the Velvet Mini Grand, Vacuum, Boom, DB33, and Xpand!2 virtual instruments. After all, the Oxygen series is considered to be the versatile control centre of a software-based music studio.

About M-Audio

M-Audio is one of the best-known manufacturers of MIDI controllers, audio and MIDI interfaces, monitor boxes, and other studio equipment. Founded in 1988 under the name Midiman, the company quickly made a name for itself, always focusing on practical features and value for money. With the successful Oxygen series, M-Audio was instrumental in establishing the genre of MIDI controller keyboards for DAW-based studios. For a time, M-Audio was part of Digidesign / Avid. The brand is now part of the inMusic group and its success story continues to this day.

All aboard

The transport controls for Start, Stop, Record and Cycle as well as the numerous controls are tailored to music production with a DAW. It is possible, for example, to control the volume of the tracks using the faders, while the knobs operate effects and the pads trigger clips. The latter are backlit in RGB colours and thus offer a well-organised, easy-to-read control overview. This makes it easier to visualise the status of the clip in question. Besides this, they are perfect for fingerdrumming while beatmaking. Two special keys allow you to switch between different octave positions. In addition, the keyboard can be split so that a maximum of two zones can be set up, and MIDI-CC commands can also be controlled.

Very compact and feature packed
mmedeiro 12.02.2022
I was pleasantly surprised by this midi controller. It is very compact and still has all the basic functionally you could expect. I am using it most of the time with my iPad, and the preset for Cubase got me everything working with zero config (faders, pan, transport controls, back/forward/repeat, selecting tracks, arming/muting them). The pads are good enough for a portable midi controller, and the note repeat can be configured and used easily enough.
It has arp/chord mode, and while I tested it and it works fine I don't really care for it so no much to say on this.
On a negative side, the daw controls are very "clicky" so if you want a silent operation this is not it. It doesn't bother me though. Also the keybed could be better, but for this size (and price) you are not really looking for premium feel anyway and it is on par or better than the competitors.

Bang for the buck
KanyWe 25.10.2021
After having used it for a couple of weeks the oxygen pro feels pretty good.
It has a solid build, hard plastic and it is easy to carry around and take anywhere.
As for the keys they take some time to get used to, but for the price and other features, their quality not being the best is to be expected.
Drum pads feel good to play around with. Both the keys and drums might need adjusting with their velocity.

Overall as it says in the title bang for the buck

j
Brilliant keyboard
jburtenshaw 15.09.2022
My primary concern when I bought this was about the size of the keys, worrying that they may impact playability. However, even for me (with big hands) it plays perfectly and the keys feel fantastic. It is jam-packed with features - including a digital electric piano, synth and grand piano - which can be used even without a DAW. They are all brilliant virtual instruments worth about £100 each (nice bargain). It is light, portable and relatively easy to set up (I recommend YouTube for this though) and overall just a great MIDI keyboard.

k
Awesome tiny controller
k0walski 30.09.2022
I've had a hard choice between bigger "brother" (49/61 Oxygens), however decided to pick this one as it's indeed compact and portable, so one can creatively create music on the fly :). Of course knobs, buttons...bells and whistles are always welcome (the more the better), however this keyboard wouldn't be compact in the end. Considering all the reviews done before, I would really recommend this one.

As for me, keybed does look sturdy. The keys sometimes need more "press" to trigger the effect bound to the key (on the keybed), but I guess for this type of the keyboard it's quite ok. Especially since it's not hammer action keyboard.

Overall impression - it's good, compact, sturdy and functional for the keyboard of that style/size.
